Our Current Focus

Longitudinal Leadership Development Study
We collected data from students from five institutions over the course of seven years (throughout participants' college careers plus two years post-college) to examine the pathways that these undergraduate students take to develop their leadership skills through academic, leadership development programs, and leadership positions. We are also examining how leadership development pathways impact students throughout college and in their careers or graduate school post-undergrad.

Leadership Principles Inventory
We are currently validating and leadership understanding measure we created based on Drath's leadership theories. Drath (2001) theorized that how people understand leadership might be explained through the developmentally oriented leadership knowledge principles of Personal Dominance, Interpersonal Influence, and Relational Dialogue. Based on these theories, we created the Leadership principles Inventory (LPI).

Shared Leadership- Virtual Group Task
Through a virtual group task, we are looking at shared leadership in a new way. We are looking at impacts on followership and leadership when there is a disconnect on the style of leadership expected, the impact of leadership style on the emergence of shared leadership in teams, how that leadership style impacts followership and group performance, and we're looking at the dark side of shared leadership through leader territoriality and ownership over their position.

Longitudinal Shared Leadership Study
We are conducting a longitudinal study exploring the emergence of shared leadership in teams alongside moderating and mediating variables that predict this concept.
